Production Day

08/09/05

My first thought is that I don't actually want to write, to be honest. I don't know what my problem is today. I've been in consumption mode.

I read a lot. I'm a big fan of the East African literature. I found a bookstore in Kisii so I've been checking out some famous local authors. I'm on my third book. Oh, and I re-read my DVX manual at lunch today. And a bit of the Bible, for who knows why. And I went back through the eleven tapes I've shot, pulling out stills for the website. Footage looks good, but I need lots more, it's a good thing I'm here for another four months (and five days.) I didn't shoot anything today except for a couple stills around sunset. And those were mostly garbage. Its just that I didn't have any meetings set up, and I still don't feel comfortable just wandering around, walking up to people and asking for a picture. If I was leaving tomorrow it would be different, but since I'm going to be in this community for so long… At least it seems so right now. Anyway, I'm just writing today off as a production day. I got the stills ready. I'm halfway packed for Uganda tomorrow. I'm very excited to see Kampala, especially after just reading about it in a book (although part of the story took place during Idi Amin's reign. Horrific.) I hope that it is fun, safe, and most of all, productive. I have a lot of work left to do.
